The Platform Infrastructure Embedded Software team designs and develops high quality software to leverage embedded compute platforms for autonomy stack development and to bolster the safety critical applications on the Motional Vehicle platforms. The role involves designing and developing infrastructure software on various hardware platforms for applications such as Vision Processing, Radar systems, Safety monitoring etc., to be run on self-driving vehicles. Responsibilities include designing firmware components such as device drivers and kernel libraries, developing software to accelerate machine learning models for deployment on Embedded Hardware platforms, designing test harnesses for embedded software components as well as full systems, providing technical mentorship to engineers, supporting the team with engineering support in their product area, mentoring a team of engineers, setting the vision and mission of the team, managing the team’s planning and execution of work, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define solutions to organizational challenges, and contributing to the long-term autonomous vehicle embedded architecture. Required experience includes creating detailed requirements from use cases, leading technical initiatives, writing software for embedded platforms in C and C++, experience with TDD, embedded Linux / RTOSs, optimizing sensor and ML accelerator pipelines, working with networks and common networking protocols, debugging on embedded platforms, writing software in Python and automation with shell scripting, and working with ARM Cortex MCUs or Microprocessors. Bonus points for experience with large data pipelines, inter-system communication protocols, FPGAs and GPUs, Linux kernel or Device Drivers, RTOSs such as FreeRTOS, ThreadX or PreemptRT, and Simulation and Code Generation.
